How to Work From Home Without Losing Your Mind
These days, more and more people have the unique opportunity to work from home. Many of them enjoy this freedom, because it allows them to spend more time with their families, eliminates their travel time, and allows them to save money on business attire. Working at home isn’t without its perks, but it can also be incredibly different than working in an office setting. How so?
There are more distractions to deal with when you’re working at home. Neighbors and friends may stop by more often because they don’t always quite understand that even though you are home, you’re still on the clock. Your children may be distracting as well, playing too noisily or interrupting you when you’re trying to meet a deadline.
Even your home itself can be distracting. Because you’re working from home, you don’t get to step out of house and away from that nagging to-do list. This means that while you’re supposed to be working, you may be thinking of the floors that needs swept, what you’re planning on fixing for dinner, or the noticeable amount of dust collecting on your computer desk.
All of these distractions can make you feel as if you’re losing your mind, and can keep you from doing your job. In order to stay sane, you’ve got to think ahead. Here are just a few tips to help.
Staying Sane When You Work From Home
- Slow Cooker Meals- Are you constantly worried about whether you’ll finish work on time to make a healthy, fulfilling dinner for your family? Eliminate this distraction by planning ahead and preparing a meal in your slow cooker or crock pot. Your dinner can cook all day, filling your home with wonderful aromas, while you actually get some work done.
- Ignore the Door- When friends, family, and neighbors stop by in the middle of the day, you might feel like it’s rude to ignore them and that you have to answer the door. The truth is, you don’t. Talk to them and let them know when your work day begins and ends, and tell them you won’t be answering the door while you’re working. The same rule applies to the phone.
- Hire a Babysitter- Do you have small children that come home from school before your workday is complete? While it may sound like a nice idea for you to take care of them after school, doing so can really cut into your work schedule and cost you money. Don’t attempt to work while caring for small children; instead, hire someone to help you. Even if you have to hire a babysitter to come in for two hours a day, the cost it takes to do so will most likely be much less than the income you would lose if you were to quit work early or attempt to work while distracted by your children.
- Home Cleaning Services- Working from home when the house is a mess is almost impossible. You can’t help but look around and mentally list every chore that needs to be done. The problem is, this distraction can greatly reduce the work you’re able to complete. Instead of trying to ignore the problem (which isn’t going to happen) or take time off work, why not have a reputable home cleaning service like Greenapple House Cleaning come in once a week to help? With help from Greenapple, you can concentrate on what you actually need to do in order support your family and leave home cleaning worries behind.
