5 Things Guests Notice About the Cleanliness of Your Home
Maybe I’m just a really judgmental person, but when I’m invited into someone’s home for the first time there are a couple of things that I notice. These things help me decide whether this person is clean or…not.
I know I’m not alone in this. You have to admit that when someone has hairballs rolling around the bathroom floor, it’s slightly off-putting. I’ll even take it a step further and say, it might change the way you see this person…forever.
Okay, okay maybe that’s too far. Regardless, it’s still kinda gross. What I’ve done, is compile a list for all of you entertainers out there, who love to invite your friends over. This list will help you pin point the areas that you may be leaving out of your weekly cleaning routine.
Your walk in area: This area basically sets the tone for your entire house. This is the first thing guests see when they enter your house. Are there shoes scattered around everywhere? Are there black scuff marks all over your door? Is the floor covered in dirt? These things are not okay. Put your shoes away, sweep the floor, clean your door from time to time. Even if you don’t do it on a regular basis, at least do it before the guests arrive. It will completely change the vibe of your home.
Your walls: If you have children, or just live with a messy person, don’t be the people who have jelly and make up and hand prints all over their walls. It’s not a good look, and your guests DO notice it. Take the time to do a quick scan of the rooms in your house at least twice a week. If there are messes on the walls, whip out that magic eraser and take care of them!
Your fans/air vents: As someone who lives in the house, you start to block out the little things. Like the fans for instance. If there is a caked up layer of dust on each blade, you need to clean it. if your guests decide to relax on the couch before dinner, and they look up and see filth, that’s a little unappetizing. You should be wiping your vans and vents clean at least once per week. Dust builds up quickly.
Your bathroom baseboards: When you’re using the restroom, you have a little bit of time on your hands. What else is there to do but look around? Your friends will definitely be catching a glimpse of those baseboards with the weird gunk on them. Maybe even the shower if you left the curtain open. Bathrooms should be regularly maintained for your own health and safety, if not for that of others.
Your sinks: One of the absolute worst things when you stay the night at someone’s house, is brushing your teeth over a filthy sink. The mixture of toothpaste, saliva, dust and hair kinda triggers that gag reflex a little bit. If not on a daily basis, at least disinfect your sinks every other day.
Now that you have all of these tips, there is no excuse for having a unclean home when guests are over. The notice and now you notice, so…take care of it.
